Day 256

Thursday June 27th
Usually at this time of year we would be embarking on a huge strimming marathon, but we have decided to leave the land (apart from a few paths) to recover, and let the grass and wildflowers come back. We are convinced this is one of the reasons the wildlife has come back so quickly. We have insects everywhere- butterflies and beetles and bees, crickets and grasshoppers, and the grass and wild flower seed is encouraging birds we haven't had here before. For the first time we have goldfinches nesting in an oak just outside the kitchen window. Bats and Martins are skimming about the sky again. The Serins and Chaffinches have returned, as have the Peregrine falcons and Buzzards. We've seen Black Redstarts, Blackbirds and this week our first Robin.
The land is looking pretty scruffy now, and Pauls hayfever has been the worst ever, but it's a small price to pay to see all the life coming back.
